Shades of Red Dreadlocks

DreadlocksHi!
Hi there!

Do you have a color chart?
We do not have a color chart although we can create dreads with just about any color you can think of. The reason we don't photograph our dread colors is because color can change so dramatically depending on the lighting and
Dreadlocks
camera. I've attached 2 sets of photos of the same dreadlocks taken by the same camera during the same 15 minutes but which look totally different (colorwise) as a result of simply moving a few inches to the right and allowing the sun to hit the dreads from a different angle. The first set of dreadlocks is top right. The second set of dreads is bottom center. Hope that helps!

I am planning on dreading my hair in the near future, and I wish to order extensions to add to existing hair, My hair is quite long, and I know locking it will reduce the length. I'm hoping to retain my length with longer extensions worked in.
Sounds like a good solution and I know other people have ordered dreads from us to achieve your goal.

I henna my hair, and have varying shades of red, but need to see the red color options to try to match somewhat to my hair....
My suggestion is to just let us know the colors you use or need. We can create a variety of shades, if you like.

Medium Brown to Dark Brown Dreads

brown dreadlocksMorning!
Good morning!

I’d like some info on the dreads please.
Okay!

1st - Are the dreadlocks double ended ~ the ones that are 36-47” & 48-60” ??? I don’t want a hoop.
It's totally your choice. We can make them double-ended or
medium brown dreadlocks
single-ended. Every set of dreadlocks we make are custom dreads. So whichever you want - double or single - is how we will make your set of dreadlocks.

dreadlocks
2nd - I’ve never had dreads before & would like to see a small sample of the pencil ~ sharpie size.
There are lots of pics of our dreads on our facebook page. That might be a great place for you to get a look at what we make. Pencil width dreads are approximately the width of a pencil. Sharpie width dreads are approximately
dreadlocks
the width of a sharpie. Really, it's that simple. :-)

3rd I’d like to match it to my hair color, I’m med brown to dark with natural red highlights, & would like to see how it would match to my natural color.
No problem. We have those colors on hand. It would help if you were more specific about the 'red highlights'. Are they light auburn, medium auburn, light burgundy, dark burgandy, fire engine red? It's fairly easy to match hair color so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

The trusted source for your family pet's natural health care.

4th How many of what size would I need to do my hair. I want mostly my natural color with a few color highlighted ones. Like a purple or such.
Would you want the red highlights and purple highlights or a different color or more than one color? You would want to let us know specifically about that.

How many dreads you will need depends on the look and length you are going for. Do you want sharpie or pencil thick dreads? It will take fewer dreads if you go with sharpie width dreadlocks but some people prefer the look of the thinner dreads. It also depends on how full a head of hair you want. That's all about personal preference. So, let us know what works for you and we can create it. I'll send you a couple invoices.

5th How long does it take to get an order of dreads. Approx is good.
We ship our dreads within 6 weeks, often much sooner. When the dreads ship depends on how many and how large the orders are that have come in previously. It also depends on if we need to order a particular color. If so, then we need to wait for that color to come in before we can make the dreads. Many of our orders go out within a couple weeks, but no promises. It just depends on the dreads and the circumstances surrounding those orders as well as the circumstances and size of your order.

6th Do you or could you explain how they are tightened up every 2 months.
The dreads are taken out and put back in at the root.

I would appreciate all the help you could give me please.
No problem! Hope that helps!

I look forward to hearing from you & thanks for the help to get my head dreaded.
My pleasure!

Best,

Christine

Crocheting Dreads vs A More Natural Approach

Crocheting Dreads into hairHey, I was going to order your synthetic dreads.. and extend them onto my existing dreads using a crochet hook. I have about 30 fat & skinny dreads in my hair and theyre all about 2 weeks old. I dont like how short they are. I wanted to know if you have any advice on how I go about doing this? thank you!

Hi Morgan,

Thanks for contacting us! Why not just allow your dreads to be as they are. Buy synthetic dreads and attach them at the root next to your real dreads. This will allow your real dreads to go without harming the ends or look of them while also allowing you additional length with the synthetic dreads.

We've made dreads for several people with short dreads who have supplemented the length with our dreads. It seems to work very well for them.

Also, while I haven't actually seen the look in person, it seems like attaching synthetic dreads to the ends of real dreads would have a high probability of looking like one is trying to hide something... if that makes sense. Like the person doesn't want you to know the real length of their dreads so they are trying to fake it. I could be wrong. I just don't see how it would be very easy to get the synthetic hair to look like real hair on the same dreadlock. Of course, if you have blue dreads and want to add pink to the end for length that might look really cool. But matching blondes or browns might be a bit more difficult.

Real hair and synthetic dreads side-by-side seem to work fine together. In fact, I'm always surprised at how many people assume the dreads are natural. I'd love to find out how you proceed and what you found to work for best.

Either way, we would be happy to make the dreads for you. Just let us know what you need.

All the best!

Christine

Shipping Dreads to South Africa

Shipping Dreadlocks to South AfricaI would like to know how many dreads I need for a full head (sharpie dreads), how to put it the dreadlocks in and what the cost will be I'm from South Africa and if you have any shop that can implant the dreads. Are all the dreads the same hair type or are the different. I have black hair.

Hi Ronelle!

I would use between 60-85 sharpie thickness dreadlocks for a full head of hair. We usually make synthetic dreadlocks but we can also make wool dreadlocks. Both can come in just about any color you can dream up. We definitely have black!

Yes, we do ship to South Africa. In fact, we have made dreads for several people in South Africa.

We only make dreadlocks. We do not put them in for people. South Africa would probably be a little out of the way even if we did put them in. ;-) But there are a lot of salons around the world that off the service. I would think that it would not be too difficult to find a salon there that would do it for you. That being said, although it takes a little time to put the dreads in
Jack Sparrow Dreads
it is a relatively easy process and a friend might be able to help you out with it!

I will send two invoices. One for 60 dreads and one for 85 dreads. Let me know if there you have any other questions!

Christine

Light Blond Dreadlocks

blonde white dreadsHello, My name is Talissa.
Hi Talissa!

I am looking to get some dread extensions. My friend is doing them for me and she has done the "double ended dreads" ? Where she braids them into my hair? Do you have those kind? or something like it.
Yes! We make double-ended dreads. We also make single-ended dreads.

I have white blonde hair so I would like the lightest blonde you have.
No problem. We can do that!

Also I have half my head shaved so I was wondering how many you think I would need.
40-60 dreads

And if you could throw in a couple colored ones like yellow?
Of course. Very cool!

If you could get back to me when you have time that would be great!
Thank you and have a beautiful day!
Thank you! You, too!

Christine

Dreadlocks for a Wedding

Hello!

I am getting married October 15th, this year. I have dreads already and was wanting to buy dread extensions to make my hair fuller and longer for my wedding.
Cool! We've actually made dreads for a bride before. She sent the pics. Both she and her hair looked gorgeous!

If I were to order dreads this week when would you be able to have them to me?
It did not say on your site how long they take to make and ship to get here. And i would need them here for my wedding. :)
We ship our dreadlocks within 6 weeks depending on how many orders we have in front of theirs and if we have the dread hair is in stock. I can ensure the dreads are shipped early enough to arrive before your wedding. We would probably be able to ship them before Oct. 3rd.

We do have several orders already ordered and qued to be created. So, if this is something you would like to move forward with, it would be best to place your order as soon as possible since we work on a first come, first serve basis and if we were to get a couple large orders in before yours it could change our shipping schedule. ...but I think it would be fine if you order this week. :-)

Also, how do I see the color I'm buying? I think I need a platinum blond but I'm not to sure.
We do not have a color chart. People tell us the color(s) they want and we make it.

We have a 'near white' which is slightly lighter than the platinum blond. We could mix the two. Just a thought. Sometimes people like to buy more than one color.

If you could get back to me right away that would be great! Thank you so much!

My pleasure!

Christine

Dread Questions for the Newbie

girl dreadlocks
Hello!

Hi Ell!

I never had dreads before and i need to ask a few questions, so I'd appreciate if you answer.

Sounds good! I'll do my best to answer your questions as effectively as I can!

I have attatched a photo of my hair length right now, How many dreads will i need to make like a streaked kind of look?

Love the photo!

I'm guessing you mean that you want the dreads placed intermingled and randomly throughout your hair. If that be the case, I'd guess you'd want between 30-40 single-ended dreads.

I don't want a full head of dreads. I want them to look evenly placed out in my hair if that
makes sense...

Yeah! I think I got it! Totally makes sense and sounds cool!

Does it?

Yup! Totally makes sense. :-)

Or do you think that will go horribly wrong?

No, I don't think it would go horribly wrong as far as how it would look. I think it would look absolutely fantastic. Sophie has a friend who did exactly what you are describing and it seemed to work fine for her. The pictures are of that girl's half dread/half hair look. Although I didn't do her hair, I believe she had dreads, braids and loose hair, as well.

I think i might actually go for a half head look,
make the dreads longer than my actual hair length too. What do you think?

I'm not sure how it would look with the dreads longer than your real hair. That's up to you. Personally, I can't envision it. I would opt for the dreads the same approximate length as your hair. But you should do whatever makes you most comfortable and what you would like to wear. It's your hairstyle!

Also, single end or double end?

I would suggest single-ended but either would work fine.

Which ones are better? And how can i attatch them?

Both single-ended dreads and double-ended dreads are great. It just depends on preference and/or purpose. Double-ended dreadlocks are easier and quicker to put in. But if you plan on leaving the dreads in for a while then single-ended dreadlocks will last longer before you need to take them out and put them back in. Also, if you decide that it is hard to wash your hair and dreads at the same time and want to be able to take the dreads out before washing your hair and then easily put the dreadlocks back in you might want to attach bobby pins to the single-ended dreads. For your purposes, single-ended dreads just seem a little more versatile. But both would work fine. Bobby pins could be attached to double-ended dreadlocks as well.

Sorry for all the silly questions but im really interested in this and I'd love to get some dreads.

No problem at all. It's important that you ask the questions you need the answers to so that you can get the right set of dreads for your personal style!

I'd appreciate a reply, thank you!

Ell

My pleasure. I'll send you an invoice. If that works for you just let me know the color(s) you want if different than the hair color in the photo, or if you have any other questions.

Best,

Christine

Wild and Free Dreads with Attitude

Cyber DreadsI was wondering if you could make me some dreads like these, with the really thick dreads, along with smaller ones and wavy ones, but in different colors.

Hi Joy!

Yes, we can do that! Looks beautiful.

Just tell me what you want - length, colors, quantity.

It looks like she's using a baby blue, lilac and powder puff pink. I'd guess she's got about 60 dreads approximately 16-30" long. I'll send you an invoice. If you'd like any changes just let me know and we'll alter it for you.

Love the look.

Very cool!

Personalizing Dreadlock Orders

Okay, great!

I don't want the dreadlocks to be too thick or too thing. So, I'd like them to be between pencil and sharpie size (if that's possible).
Sounds good!

I would like five single-ended ones.
Sounds good!

I sent you a picture so you can see my hair color! I like the tone of brown on the underside of my hair, so I guess it'd be classified as medium dark brown...
Sounds good!

I am going for the natural look. From the base of my hair line, where I want the dreads, my hair is 16 inches long. So that sounds good for a length.
Approximately 16". Got it!

I've sent an invoice. We'll be happy to make them for you!

Double-ended Dreads - Sharpie Thickness

Hi!

Hi there!

I was wondering how much it would be to get dread extensions:

- double-ended
- solid dark brown
- 18"
- about the thickness of sharpie or a little bigger

I'm not sure how many I will need but if possible base it on average dreads per head.

I'll send you a PayPal invoice for 40 dreads and another for 60 dreads. Choose the invoice that works best for you.

40 dreads will work fine. 60 dreads will offer a fuller head of dreads. So it really just depends on the look you are after. If you would like a different number of dreads just let me know and I can make up a new invoice.

I live in
Hamilton, Ontario. How much would it be to be shipped?

$10

Thank you!

My pleasure. We look forward to making your dreads!

Best,

Christine

Attaching Dreads to Short Hair

attaching dreadlocksMy hair is black but I don't have the slightest clue how to lock my hair it is soooo short.

Hi again, Harley!

Do you want to dread your real hair?

I've never had 'real' natural hair dreadlocks and with how thin my hair is it probably wouldn't look very good unless I added some synthetic dreads into the mix. Therefore, I don't know anything about starting new 'real' deads from hair already attached on the head.

We create custom wool and synthetic dreadlocks only.

Our dreads can be put in and taken out on a daily basis or they can be be attached to be semi-permanent lasting anywhere for approximately 1-2 months depending on hair thickness and growth.

My hair is thin so as it grows out and the dread starts pulling at the root of my scalp it hurts and I get headaches if I've left the dreads in for more than a month.

On the other hand, my daughter has really thick hair, so no matter how long her roots get it never feels like it individual hairs are pulling on the scalp. Therefore, she tends to reattach her dreadlocks every 6-8 weeks because by then the root hair is long enough to wear the dreadlocks don't hang right anymore.

Are you asking how long your hair must be before you can attach synthetic Dreadlocksdreadlocks?
I've dreaded my hair when it was three inches long. It's easier to attach the dreadlocks to hair that is at least 4" but not necessary to wait until the hair grows out to that length.

A bad haircut can make waiting until hair is four inches long feel like an eternity. :-)

Well, I'm not sure what your question is but I've tried to answer it to the best of my ability. It would help if you were a little more clear in what you are looking for (advice for making real dreads, how to attach synthetic dreads, how long hair needs to be before dreads can be attached to short hair, etc?).

Note: I don't know what 'lock my hair' means but it really sounds like your hair is going to the slammer! ;-)

Choosing Colors for Dreadlocks

Kanekalon Dreadlocks for SaleI have extensions, I could post them to you to match the colour.

That would work! Also, if you want something beyond what you have let us know. Often times we can get really cool funky colors beyond the typical or standard colors that are generally used. Just a thought...

Sharon Kihara Long Dreads

Kihara Long DreadsHi,
Hi Shannon!

I am dreading my hair for the first time and am not sure how many synthetic dreads I will need to buy.

I have four inch long hair and and it's super thin (like baby thin).
Mine is super thin, too. Argh! On the bright side. 4" is perfect for dreading. It will be long enough and much easier to braid the dreads in then with really long hair. The first time I put dreads in my hair was about your length.

I was hoping to do it in the style of Sharon Kihara, the belly dancer, where she has the bangs and front part of her hair natural.
I really like natural bangs in front. It's a nice look! You should be able to do that with no problem!

So far, out of everything I've seen I am completely in love with the way and colors you use in your products.
Ahhh, you're so sweet! Thank you!

Thank you so much for your time and I hope to be ordering very soon!

I would recommend 60 Single-ended dreads - maybe a medium, dark and darker brown to add depth and texture - unless you wanted to veer from Sharon's look?

26-32" is probably a good length. Fewer dreads might be a little thin while more dreads might be too heavy at that length.

I'll send an invoice. If that works for you just pay it and we'll que your order. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

All my best,

Shannon

All my best,
Christine
